Hey everybody!
I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and I'll be writing a post on the presents I received most likely for tomorrow! But for now, I have something a little different.
In the UK we have the annual Queen's Speech. I've never watched one before but it gave me an idea... What about a speech from a Transgender person? It could be a thing kind of! So I decided I'd write one. And here goes:
Our society is like a big database. There's a list of things, and they each have a value. Buying Christmas Presents would have the value "Normal", "Drinking from a two litre bottle in the street" would have the value "Not Normal". Then you have homosexual people which in the current day and age, would have the value "Not Normal". The same goes for Transgender; its value, "Not Normal". Its that value that causes people to hide away. Being homosexual isn't normal, so homosexual people hide their personality behind a mask. There's a percentage who don't do this, and some people frown upon them. The thing is though, why should we hide behind a mask because it isn't the normal thing? Why should I pretend to be something I'm not because society doesn't accept it? It's wrong that I should hide, that Transgender people should hide, that anybody should hide. What reasons do people have not to accept Transgender people? We couldn't control our chromosomes... We weren't able to say "That Y chromosome? No, I think I'll leave it and have XX". The way we are isn't something we asked for. If we had the choice, we'd have asked to be the opposite gender. Don't hate against Transgender or think of them any differently; we're still human.
I suppose I could make a longer one next year but for now, I think that is a powerful message. Merry Christmas and a happy New Year!
Love you all,
Ems!
