Writing!

Hey everyone!

Okay so today's blog post features a little clip of writing I've been working on for a book. I don't know whether I'll keep this introduction or whether I'll change it because this is only the first draft. The story will be based during a war in the present day, where terrorists have the upper hand over the governments. Once we have full freedom, what will we do with it? With that being said, here's the paragraph:

The rain pounds against my immaculate windows, covering them in a layer of water droplets. It’s almost like a song playing in the background of my life; rain acting as an odd, untimely riff with the vexatious alarm clock adding a useless ‘rhythm’. It’s a song I wake up to most days with the exception of Sunday – the only twenty four hours I can spend relaxing and rejuvenating. My school, less than a five minute walk away, doesn’t tend to hold back when it comes to homework. Sometimes it seems as if they have a passion to hand it out. With all the work and my mundane job on Saturday’s at a supermarket in San Francisco, that singular day of lazing around is imperative to my survival.
I end the songs existence by hitting my alarm with as much force possible at seven in the morning – if only it was as simple to silence the pattering of rain. My friends find it stupid that, living practically next to West Bay High School, I begin to get dressed at “such an early time”. Actually, ‘friends’ isn’t the best word with it being plural. My circle of friends consists of one close friend – named Alexa – and two companions – Peeta and Georgie. Alexa has stuck by my side since third grade and in that time, her hair as acted like a manikin for hairdressers. She’s worn an abundance of style and colours, the majority of which lasting a no longer than a week. Alexa’s the type of person who’s dauntless, who isn’t afraid to try something new even if the odds are against her.
That's as much as I've written so far! Please tell me what you think of it in the comments and also, I'm going to ask you a question. What has been your favourite opening from a book you've read?

Love you all,
Ems!
